This has been a favorite “sleeper” date of mine for years and it remains so even in 2015. The 1846-O is not often seen above the EF45 to AU53 range, and when it is it tends to be abraded, bright, and unappealing. While certainly not in the same rarity class as the 1841-O or 1849-O, the 1846-O is one of the rarest New Orleans eagles from the 1840’s and it remains extremely rare in Uncirculated with just four known to me.
